Silicone covered cooking utensils are great. The flexible outer edge on this spatula really gets under stuff nicely for flipping.
1) these aren’t toxic black plastic, 2) that big one will flip a seriously large pancake
Well, see that ugly little spatula in the front? That antique ( I'm going to be kind and say it is 40 years old, but likely older) little flipper was what I was attempting to replace.We are talking a rigid flipper for hamburger type patties in a non-stick pan. The handle is rigid, the flipper part relatively solid with a bit of give. I'm assuming because it is so old there are no cancer issues with it, but it finally developed a crack in the plastic, so while I can temporarily keep sanitizing it in boiling water, it really needs to go.What it did well was flip meat patties and anything else heavy enough to require a bit of help. I'm talking about that first stubborn slice of lasagna, that unfortunate cake slice, etc etc. You all know what I'm talking about.This spatula....nope. Not even close. It refused to flip the patty, it refused to pick up the patty, it was too large, too cumbersome, and I am working at not being overly negative.I'm not going to return it because I think it has a future flipping lighter stuff like pancakes, French toast made from homemade breads and the like. It just does not have the heft to deal with the heavy real tasks. This one simply cannot stand up to the tasks I was demanding of it.Starpack, make me a spatula like the poor 40 year old guy and I will love you forever! I have multiple stainless that can deal with patties, lasagna, etc, but they can't deal with the "non-stick" coatings. Well, not without destroying the pans and that is not optimal.Oh, and my apologies for the picture. Yes, both utensils are greasy because I just wiped them off and stacked them so the differences could be seen, grease and all!
This was a great spatula. But it started coming apart after about 1 1/2 years of use. It wasn’t abused - so a disappointment
600 degrees, eh? Not so much.Like many other cooks, I am replacing all my black plastic cooking utensils on the advice of experts. I researched many brands and decided on this one in no small part because America's Test Kitchen recommends the brand. I spent a ton of money on every utensil that Starpack makes, thinking it would be an investment for years to come. I was impressed that the utensils are supposedly impervious to high heat up to 600 degrees F.I left one of the spatulas resting on the edge of a pan after making scrambled eggs and came back to find a melted spot on the handle. This does not bode well. I'm pretty annoyed that I spent all this money on items that are likely to melt. At this point I have to say that you shouldn't believe what Starpack says about their products.
